The Clarendon Parish Council focused on the Clarendon Infirmary for its Work Day project this year. On Saturday, November 15 officers and Councillors volunteered their time to repaint a section of the facility. Secretary/Manager Rowhan Blake says that each year for Local Government and Community Development month the Council tries to do an outreach project and this year members of staff decided that the Clarendon Infirmary was in need of a face-lift.The project is part of the Council’s overall plan to repaint the residential care facility in bright, cheerful colours.
Mr. Blake explains that the Parish Council had previously done estimates to repaint the facility in an effort to bring cheer to residents. However these plans had to be put on hold due to a lack of funds. He says the work day capitalised on volunteer labour from staff members to give the project a push-start.
Chairman of Council, His Worship The Mayor Councillor Scean Barnswell says the work done on the ward which was the focus of the work day exercise brought smiles to the faces of residents and lifted spirits. Mr. Barnswell commended the Parish Council’s administrative staff for the work they put in. He says he was especially heartened that the staff not only painted, but took time out to interact with residents which showed residents that they are cared for, loved and are special.
Councillor Barnswell says the Council’s overall vision for the Clarendon Infirmary is to remove the ‘stigma of infirmaries’ from the residential care facility in addition to ensure that routine maintenance is done and residents are properly cared for.
Mr. Blake explains that the Infirmary’s paint project is part of a bigger plan to improve the overall appearance of the facility.
He says the Council is expected to identify the additional funds to complete the project.
