Mayor

MAYOR'S MESSAGE

On behalf of the elected officials of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Corporation's website.

This is the year in which we celebrate our 55th anniversary as an independent nation and Clarendon's 150th year as an amalgamated parish. This is also the year when we launched the Clarendon Local Sustainable Development Plan and completed our Corporate Plan to guide the Corporation's operations over the next four years.

But even more importantly 2017 marks the beginning of my first full year as Mayor of May Pen and Chairman of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation. Ever mindful that we are serving in the digital age and in an era where our constituents demand more of their elected representatives and improved levels of customer service from our administrative staff it is imperative that the Corporation uses platforms such as this to inform our citizens of our plans and programmes in an effective and timely manner.

In this way we can actively avoid them using ever pervasive communication tools to by-pass us and broadcast their dissatisfaction openly and in real time.

We are using the Municipal Corporation's website to inform, interact with and empower Clarendonians right where they are in their homes and communities making updated resources and information available to them in relation to the correct procedures to apply for various permits; the relevant laws that govern the use of private and public spaces and the programmes and events the Corporation hosts to encourage civic responsibility.

As my main plans to develop and grow the parish begin to take root and mushroom into entrenched programmes, this website will soon become the portal to whet appetites and even book visits to the parish's world-renowned natural and heritage attractions. Soon too citizens will come here to identify the domestic water systems that would have been developed by the Municipal Corporation in communities located in the far reaches of the parish which have been without the precious commodity for years. Parents too will shortly visit this website to access maps that will direct them to safe, well-equipped open spaces close to their homes to bring their children to play.

These are my fundamental goals to transform Clarendon one division at a time into the ultimate place to visit, live, work, do business, raise families and retire. I encourage you to visit our website http://clarendonpc.gov.jm as often as you can to keep abreast of the Corporation's work in your community and please do take the opportunity to provide us with your feedback as our plans to prosper you take shape.

We are truly proud of our parish. Once again, thank you for visiting our website and please do come back soon.

Respectfully,

Winston L. Maragh, OD, JP,
Mayor of May Pen
Chairman, Clarendon Municipal Corporation
