Political Directorate

The Clarendon Municipal Corporation (CMC) consists of twenty-two (22) councillors who are directly elected representatives that meet monthly to review matters relating to the development of the parish. Both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor are chosen from the elected councillors, with the mayor being the head of the political directorate. The political party with the majority of elected members/councillors in the council has the right to select (from their numbers) the persons to be mayor and deputy. The CMC has a set of committees where councillors, staff and representatives from external agencies meet to discuss policies, make decisions and approve recommendations. These committees are responsible for matters ranging from finance to discipline and staff welfare. Each committee is headed by a chairperson who leads the discussions on policy related matters.
