Joel Williams has dedicated over three decades of his life to public service, earning recognition as a transformative leader in local government and community development. Born on October 4 in Western Park, May Pen, Clarendon, Williams grew up in a politically active family that nurtured his passion for service. His father, a former branch chairman in the Jamaica Labour Party inspired his early involvement in politics which paved the way for him being elected as Jamaica’s youngest Councillor at the age of 18, representing the Denbigh Division and later installed as the youngest Justice of the Peace at the time.
He began his education at Denbigh Primary School before attending Clarendon College but later, completing his secondary education at Wolmer’s Boys’ School. Although he pursued tertiary studies, his passion for politics drew him into public service before completion.
Over the years, Williams held numerous leadership roles, including serving as Vice President of the Caribbean Youth Conference, a regional body of young political leaders spanning territories such as Jamaica, St. Lucia, and Bermuda. Through this role, Williams built a reputation as a connector and advocate for youth leadership across the Caribbean.
His extensive service includes multiple terms as Councillor for the Denbigh and Toll Gate Divisions and, most recently, as Mayor of May Pen. During his tenure, he has championed initiatives in infrastructural development, community improvement, and education, fostering a culture of inclusivity and progress in Clarendon.
